African children receive books from East Hampton

More than 5,000 miles from the East End, at a rural boarding school in the African nation of Namibia, school children are reading books donated from people in East Hampton.

Doreen Niggles, a real estate agent and the president of the board of managers for the East Hampton Library, has been sending those books, which she collects from residents here, to the A. Garisen School in Sorris Sorris since 2006.

Three Southampton hotels go on the market

Three Southampton hotels have gone up for sale, piquing the interest of developers, hotel chains and celebrities alike.

The hotels—The Atlantic, The Bentley and The Capri—have 49 suites and 84 rooms among them, representing about 43 percent of the total hospitality market in the Southampton area, according to Massel Knakal Realty Services, the Manhattan-based broker of the sale.

Errors continue to hurt Baymen

The Hampton Bays baseball team continues to score runs on a regular basis. Now it just needs to stop making so many fielding errors. That’s easier said than done.

The Baymen lost the first game of their series in Mount Sinai 14-10 on May 6 committing four blunders in one inning. They played much better in the field in the second game of the series but lost 12-8 at home on Thursday.

Local poet publishes second book

Though she didn’t start writing poetry until after retirement, Ann Hammond has made up for lost time and has recently published her second book of poems.

More than a decade after she started writing in earnest, the former physical education and creative movement teacher made the discovery that she is a natural when it comes to mining her own experiences and turning them into poetry.
